Arrow Pre-Searing character guide!

Pre-Searing has been officialy ruined, ANet even made me delete my level 18 Pre-Searing character, this guide doesn't have any use.

Made it a little bit easier to read, improved some grammar, added 2 pictures and made the Charr Hunting part more clear.

Your guide seems to be very complete at some points (I personally think a little work is needed on the profession part, but that's juste my taste). Would you mind if I copied your collector's section (with some adjustments to show which class has which armor parts) to my guilds forum to be in the guide I write for newer members?

Why is Faintheartedness called "My Webpage"?

Um as much as I like it, I'd like to comment that unless you (player reading the guide) are somewhat ambitious or nuts and are trying to get level 20 in Presear it (leveling in presear to get to post) should NOT take more than a couple hours.

Common typo..

And LifeInfusion, this isn't for people that want to go to Post-Searing, but for people that'll stay in Pre-Searing forever. If you want to get to lvl 20 as soon as possible, you should be doing missions in Post-Searing, I agree

Actually, that's how to get out of Pre-Searing effectively, and fast, this is about staying in Pre-Searing

Im not the best at spelling but i think you have spelt profession wrong.
Since i can still read it, its not a big problem.

really great guide! especially since im trying to get as high level as possible in pre-searing (until i get bored) I realised that i screwed up my other character because i didnt do the extra skill trainer stuff. so i had to buy all my skills

Ok, I tried to post around 5 hours ago but for some reason my posts got lost all the time. Hopefully it'll work now...

I can add that (having a lvl 15 R/Me in pre) using your pet effectively goes a long way to soloing effectively. I presonally find that using a wolf suits me best for doing 2 different things:
Luring a group of charr with a longbow without having the pet engage (as to prevent the wolf from aggroing everything) and using a longbow to engage a group and having the pet attack right away.
I do this like this:
When I click the enemy charr to attack it and click the ground right before I actually shoot the arrow the wolf will not engage. When I click to engage and do nothing the wolf will engage as soon as I shoot the arrow, or when the first arrow hits.

Also I find the wolf good use through it's agressiveness. It'll keep attacking for a while even if I run away (for instance when things go wrong and I need to run for my life). The wolf will usually keep attacking, reaggroing the persui-ers so I can get away.

Also a good trick that can come in handy in the Northlands is when you get persuid by a too large group of charr is to walk right by a group of oakhearts. The charr often will start attacking the oakhearts and you can get away (though you'll miss out on some drops).

When attacking a group that includes warriors it's best to try to have the warriors aggro your pet instead of you. if the warriors aggro you you can try to walk right past your pet (basically trying to hide behind it) to try to get them to attack your pet instead so you can concentrate on doing damage.
Reapply if they keep attacking you. if it for whatever reason just won't work and you think you'll get chopped to death very soon then it's often best to make a run for it and try attacking them again after you and your pet have regenerated or try another approach route or angle

if the charr group contains hunters you realy want to make use of whatever rocks/walls are nearby to stay out of harms way. Once your behind some wall or rock you can send your pet to attack the hunters (by using some caster skill or bow attack (which will miss cuz you'll be behind cover)). Once the pet aggroes the hunters you can attack the hunters while the hunters concentrate on your pet.
If they still keep attacking you instead then your second option is to walk back behind your cover so the hunters won't hit you but you can still hit 1 of the other charr and start attacking that 1.

If all fails and with your pet is already dead and you facing a too large group of charr then you should make a run for it. When a little bit away you can try to ress your pet and after your pet is ressed continue running.
If you're lucky they'll start attacking the (very low on health) pet and after they killed it again and with you some distance away the mob will possibly have de-aggroed you.

And keep in mind that when you're a ranger to try and use elevated terrain. Hunters will do less damage while you do more. Also standing on top of a cliff makes it easy to hide behind the edge of the cliff when dying.
just keep in mind that casters use non-los skills to do damage so do this in time. Also it's good to have 1 weapon slot set up as +health swithc slot so you get an instand health boost in case you're degenned to death while on the run (I myself use a +23hp staff)

It's also good to bring your secondaries health skill along with troll ungruent.
I use Ether feast for a quick +75 health alongside troll.

Also use at least a longbow for luring and 1 (customized) (short)bow as your main damage dealer.

how to clear the temple itself deserves a whole other miniguide and frankly I don't realy know if I want to spread that info due to potential nerfing...

Some other minor things to note is that once level 14 the only way you can get xp is by killing the charr bosses. Often thats the reason these people want to either solo the temple or will not bother getting a teammate atall (so they get full xp from the bosses)
once you're level 12 you'll get xp only from the charr in the northlands.

Another minor note is that the best equipment drops in the northlands. Anywhere else you'll more then likely get no req 4-6 staffs and wands, 6 armor shields and maybe a single 8-11 bow.If you're too weak to farm the northlands yourself there are usually some high level people selling northland drops for a few hundred that are otherwise unobtainable south of the wall

If you're a pre warrior you should check out the crafter in ascalon city. He crafts a 10-14 rinblade for 5 iron ingots + 100g with some charr bonus.

Ofcourse a high level pre toon wouldn't be complete without having pimped your armor with some fancy color. It doesn't have to be all black with black dyed shields and offhands ofcourse but whatever color you decide to get, please make it 1 color instead of making this red, that green and the boots silver. it looks more like a mess that way

Also there are no head armor collectors in pre so try not to somehow loose your starter head armor

And last but not least; there will come a time that you'll get tired of trying to level your pre toon and might get the idea to just sear it. I know some peeps that have seared their level 16 necro or level 16 ranger with level 20 pet and regretted it later.
if you get bored of pre (I know I get bored of pre at times) just start playing your post chars again. Searing a high level char also wasted a lot of time, efford and devotion.

Well, thats all I can think of right now. If you feel up to making a high level toon in pre just keep in mind that pre plays differently from post and not all rules that count in post apply to pre (no storage for instance, you'll have to build up your pre toon from the ground up)

That sure helped DreamCatcher! I'm not that Ranger experienced, since my record is level 8 in Pre-Searing with a Ranger, so I never really got as far as solo'ing, is it that hard a Ranger?

ok well you left out Soul Barbs in the Necro skills set. I have soul barbs on my level 8 N/Me in pre-searing.

Under the warrior explanation you typed Holy Wrath, whent it is Symbol of Wrath.

amd i would like to know what happens when you give gwen the "little girls cape"..ive never done that

When you give her the cape she'll reset your level

:P

but seriously, I don't actually know what will happen. I guess the best thing that can happen is that she'll follow you around and heal you from time to time. She won't follow you to the northlands though...

How do you stay in pre? I have "heard" that after you turn lvl 15-16 they automatically send you to the academy... I do not know for sure though but i have never tested it out... though i know a lvl 20 and lvl 17 in pre... so i dont think they will but i want to make sure. =P

Very nice guide!

I'm very fond of W/R. The pet is great but Troll's is also one of the best heals in PRE. Enchant busters won't touch it so you can fire it up just before you engage and soak up those nasty first attack spells.

If you've got any way to get XP over lvl17 since the AI nerf last fall, pleeease pm me!!

Cheers,

KS

Yeah, I tried using Trolls, but it's not a during-battle skill if you ask me, since it's 3 second casting time, and one 10 second cast won't keep you healed forever, that's why I'd rather use Healing Signet.

And indeed, if it's still possible to get past lvl 17 in Pre, please tell!
